The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac sodium is present in controlled-release drug delivery systems in the form of pellets called diclofenac sodium SR pellets. In order to provide prolonged pain relief and decrease the frequency of dosing, the pellets are created to release the medication slowly and consistently over an extended period of time, typically between 12 and 24 hours.
They are designed as tiny, spherical particles that can be compressed into tablets or enclosed in capsules. Pellets containing diclofenac sodium SR are frequently used to treat chronic pain and inflammation brought on by musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and others.
